Ali, who was on a school trip returns home and finds their bodies. Katie goes to Kristi’s house, killing Daniel and Kristi, and leaving with Hunter. The possessed Katie calls for Micah, killing him before killing Hector. Hector, teleporting to 2006 from 2012, finds Katie in her kitchen.Katie is bitten and possessed, as Kristi was previously. Katie and Micah begin experiencing supernatural events. They choose to transfer the spirit onto Katie. Martine recommends the family perform a ritual to transfer the supernatural burden to another member of the family. Kristi is bitten by an unknown entity and subsequently possessed, exhibiting odd behavior and, at times, catatonic or violent. While visiting, Micah plays with Daniel’s new camera, later purchasing one of his own.Supernatural events, similar to what Katie and Kristi experienced as children, begin occurring in Kristi’s home.Daniel fires their housekeeper, Martine. They install security cameras throughout their home. Kristi, Daniel, Ali, and Hunter’s house is burglarized, with only Hunter’s room left untouched. The Marked Ones is great story-wise, so fans will undoubtedly enjoy it. I also like the ever growing complexity of the Katie / Kristi / Hunter / Grandma Lois / Toby story line, which this film contributed greatly towards. Overall, I loved this film and the doors the ending opened for future installments. The film spent a lot of time focusing on this fairly irrelevant footage, and felt too similar to Chronicle, another film in the found footage sub-genre. The only negative thing I have to say about it is that *spoilers* when Jesse got possessed by the demon on becoming 18, he gained supernatural like abilities. There’s also lots of subtle little clues, hints, and links to notice throughout the movie that link to the others, which is also interesting to see if you’re a fan. It does a good job of tying up links and answering questions made by previous installments, whilst also opening up new ones for future sequels. Just got back from seeing this and I was admittedly skeptical watching the trailer feeling as though it had steered off in a completely irrelevant direction, but was ultimately pleasantly surprised. Rare and collectible books in their own right, these lavish copies are designed to reproduce the look and feel of their inaccessible models as closely as possible. This student-curated exhibition for the University Art Gallery (UAG) explores illuminated manuscripts through print and digital copies, with a focus on the University of Pittsburgh’s outstanding facsimile collection. Whether painted by hand, printed from a press, or captured in photography, facsimiles bring manuscripts to wide audiences even when the originals are too fragile for regular handling. “The students have to basically do the work of a librarian or historian. From the earliest book-making workshops (or scriptoria) of the Middle Ages to the specialty publishers that produce luxury replicas today, the process of copying has defined the art of the book. “Rauner has a lot of fragments that have very minimal metadata,” Gaposchkin says. On some of the edges, the text cuts off and I have to figure out what the words are.” There are scribal notes in the margins and superimposed text in another hand from a later period. “It’s a fragment of a folio that was torn out of its original manuscript and repurposed as part of a binding for another manuscript. “I’m looking at a martyrology from the 11th century on Saints Palatias and Laurentia,” says Salame. “It’s hard, but fun to put yourself in the scribe’s position-in the shoes of the person writing the stuff that we’re reading for homework,” says Hadley.įor their final projects, the students document manuscript fragments from Rauner’s collection-artifacts that no one may have looked at closely for hundreds of years. The students learn about manuscript conservation from Dartmouth Library’s collections conservator, Deborah Howe codicology, or the study of books as physical objects, from special collections librarian Morgan Swan and visit the Book Arts Workshop, where Program Manager Sarah Smith shows them how to make oak gall ink and quill pens and lets them practice writing their own Gothic calligraphy. “You need multiple pairs of eyes on a manuscript in order for someone to see something that perhaps you can’t see in the moment.” “ I t’s a fundamentally collaborative discipline,” Salame says. The professors weigh in with pieces of historical and linguistic context. The students have transcribed and translated the text in advance, and they go around the circle sharing interpretations. In a typical session, the students gather in Rauner’s Ticknor Room with a manuscript open on table, the page under discussion projected on a screen and a library cart of reference books nearby. “It’s like solving a puzzle,” says Elizabeth Hadley ’23, a member of School House from North Caldwell, N.J., who calls the class “ one of the best experiences I’ve had at Dartmouth.” “A u with a line over it equals the letters um-they just didn’t want to fit the last character in at the end, the way we would write ‘tho’ instead of ‘though.’ ” In manuscript shorthand, “DNO means domino (lord), DS is deus (god),” says Salame, who plans a modified government major. “It’s literally the same thing,” says Kamil Salame ’24, a member of the School House residential community from Greenwich, Conn., comparing abbreviations used by medieval writers to modern shortened forms, such as LOL or OMG. Today, making sense of these works requires knowledge of everything from calligraphic styles to idiomatic Latin expressions and abbreviations-think textspeak for the Middle Ages. “They’re doing graduate-level work.”īefore the printing press, European scribes wrote and copied manuscripts with quill and ink, in Latin. “It is amazing that we have 10 students who want to learn this,” she says. Paleography-the study of historical manuscripts and handwriting-isn’t usually taught at the undergraduate level, says Gaposchkin. The class-“Latin Paleography,” co-taught by Jennifer Lynn, language program director in the Department of Classics, and medievalist Cecilia Gaposchkin, a professor and chair of the Department of History -was a one-of-a-kind opportunity for undergraduates interested in Latin, medieval studies, and the history of books. Throughout the fall, a group of students met in Dartmouth Library’s Rauner Special Collections Library to decipher handwritten texts from the Middle Ages. Bar none the best beat 'em up on the arcade. Developed by Capcom, so expect some very smooth controls and SHOULDER CANNON! JUMP KICK! varied movesets. Take control of a military cyborg or Predator and lash out at the encroaching alien swarm and corrupt Weyland-Yutani corporation. The movie may have sucked but this MOST CERTAINLY DID NOT. Every now and then you enter first-person shooting sequences where you can cause mayhem with you guns and also some short shoot'em up sequences where your characters run like hell pursuing the damn aliens. Plays sort of like Golden Axe but with guns. Are you a bad enough dude to rescue the president? FlyerĬrazy ass Sega beat'em up where you face off against stinking aliens and must pulverize them. Wrestler in All of Us: Everyone can do a variety of grabs, throws, suplexes, and dual-team maneuvers on the unfortunate enemies. The president has been kidnapped by ninjas.Spin Attack: Most characters do this automatically upon recovering from a knockdown.Scoring Points: It's unique in the sense that the game rewards you with more points the lower your life is, and if you reach certain thresholds, your maximum life and power increases.Averted in the sequel, where Zeldia is in her true form from the beginning.Samus Is a Girl: In the end of the first game, when Zeldia falls from the building, her true form leaves the monstrous carcass, revealing she's a female. In contrast, the characters (and enemies) were given a new set of moves, you can assign a new button to execute the special moves, and you can activate Friendly Fire unlike the Arcade original for those seeking a more harder challenge. Reformulated Game: the Super Famicom version, called Ghost Chaser Densei, alters the game to make it up for the less powerful hardware: the playable characters were cut to just Makai, Iyo, and Belva (Zeldia, Tulks, and Kurokishi appear within the story, and the first two as bosses, Zeldia appears in Iyo's ending and Kurokishi appears on Makai's ending, on both cases being a Big Damn Heroes moment), some stage parts were cut, and the first bonus stage was removed. But this is mitigated as the damage from enemies is nerfed (specially Bosses) and the recovery items being more prevalent. In the Super Famicom version, you only have FOUR credits.Nintendo Hard: Despite the moveset and the aversion of the Desperation Attack, you only have ONE life per credit.Combination Attack: If there're two players they have access to two of these, and every possible pair has their own set of combination attacks. You will regain some Power Meter automatically by getting up after being knocked down. Cast from Hit Points: Averted, the special moves that you can perform drain the Power Meter instead, and you can recharge it by standing still, the character will recharge his/her special bar Dragon Ball -style.Blocking Stops All Damage: A rare example for a Beat'em up, but there're some attacks that are unblockable. Anti-Frustration Features: If you lose your only life and you continue, you won't lose your life/power upgrades described below.Zeldia: An extremely strong beast capable of spitting fire and shoot needles.Tulks: A muscled wrestler in a Cyberpunk setting!.Kurokishi: A policewoman who attacks with her legs.Belva: A robot who can glide with its boots and shock its enemies.Iyo: An agile Monkey Girl armed with a extendable spiked mace. Can do a Hurricane Kick and set his opponents in fire with many of his attacks. In this situation, the human administrators of the city have assembled a special task force to deal with the criminals, known only as "Ghost Chasers": A mysterious group of criminals known as "Ghosts" have infiltrated the once-perfect city-state, evading the omnipresent detection through unknown means with an unknown agenda. 2079, in the Far East exists a city-state known as the Total Control Central Nation, controlled by a Central Command that observes, monitors, and rules everything in the entire city-state, because of this, crime is non-existent.or so it was thought. The original game was followed in 1995 by Guardians (1995) (also known as Denjin Makai II). A Fan Translation of the latter was released in May 15, 2017. A port titled Ghost Chaser Densei was released in Septemfor the Super Famicom. It was innovative for its time by including for each one of the six player characters an extended moveset (including team-up attacks) and by relegating special and crowd control moves to a special bar, much like a Fighting Game. Denjin Makai is a Beat 'em Up Arcade Game created by WinkySoft and published by Banpresto (famous for its Super Robot Wars series) in February 1st, 1994. When Christie seeks the doll, he tells her he doesn't know where it is. He says, "Then you have feelings!" The doll replies, "Doesn't everything?" Erich accuses Annabelle of placing a walkie-talkie in Tina and speaking through the doll to "get back at him." She, of course, denies it.įinding the doll, Erich goes into the garage and places it in a trash can with a lid. Left alone with the doll, Erich hears it say "My name is Talky Tina and I'm beginning to hate you." He replies, "My name is Erich Streator, and I'm going to get rid of you." Tina exclaims "You wouldn't dare! Annabelle would hate you, Christie would hate you, and I would hate you." Erich places a match next to Tina, who gasps. Erich catches the doll winking at him, while the others are looking elsewhere at the table. Erich still believes Annabelle bought Tina as a reminder they cannot have children of their own. Erich becomes annoyed, and Annabelle declares that Tina is good for Christie, that it gives her someone to play with. At the dinner table, Christie pretends to feed Tina. Annabelle pleads with Erich to be kinder to Christie. "My name is Talky Tina, and you'll be sorry."Īnnabelle re-enters, and we learn that Erich is actually Christie's stepfather and is bitter because he cannot sire children further, it is implied that Annabelle did not even tell him she had a daughter until after they were married. He winds the key on the back of the doll and hears it say: Annabelle follows Christie, and Erich examines the doll. Christie flees the room, leaving Talky Tina behind. Erich angrily states that Christie does not need another doll. Annabelle says Christie has wanted this doll for months and that she put it on their credit account, which only infuriates him further. Christie shows him that the box contains "Talky Tina," a doll that repeats "My name is Talky Tina, and I love you very much!" Annabelle is thrilled with her daughter's response, but a disgruntled Erich demands to know how much it cost. Little Christie and her mother Annabelle go to the store and Ammabelle buys her a gift in a large box wrapped in pretty paper while her stepfather Erich ( Telly Savalas) is less than thrilled when he finds out. To Erich Streator, she is a most unwelcome addition to his household, but without her, he'd never enter the Twilight Zone. The security firm says it shared these vulnerabilities with ShareIt three months ago, but the company has yet to issue patches. Trend Micro says compromising the app can lead to remote code execution. It can delete apps, run at startup, create accounts and set passwords, and do a whole lot more. According to the Play Store permissions readout, ShareIt requests access to the entire user storage and all media, the camera and microphone, and location. The report says ShareIt's vulnerabilities can "be abused to leak a user's sensitive data and execute arbitrary code with ShareIt permissions." ShareIt's permissions, as a local file-sharing app, are pretty extensive. ShareIt has been downloaded over a billion times from the Play Store, and, according to App Annie, was one of the 10 most globally downloaded apps in 2019. The app was originally developed by Lenovo (it has since spun off into its own company) and for a time was pre-installed on Lenovo phones. If you're using Shareit on a phone powered by Google software then you'll see ads popping up every few seconds, and it's enough to put you off the app.Trend Micro says it has found "several" security flaws in the popular Android app ShareIt. It's obviously the ads where Shareit makes its money, plus the wealth of extra content that it attempts to push through the Android app. Apart from the ad removal, there's no change in functionality. There are free and paid-for versions on iOS, with the premium app removing the ads and costing you $2.99 or £2.99. Shareit is completely free to use on Windows, macOS and Android, which is definitely one of the major plus points about the service. In terms of permissions on mobile, Shareit asks for access to the camera (for scanning QR codes) and your phone's storage, as well as your location, your contacts and your microphone – some of those seem like a bit of a reach, especially the microphone one (you can of course block these permissions if you're not happy with them). It would be a difficult system to crack into without having physical access to the devices, but there are no advanced security features like PINs or passwords, and transferred data isn't encrypted. The only real security you've got for your files is the Shareit network – if you've made your device discoverable through the app, then anyone can send files to you or receive files that you're sharing. These are only available on Android though, and it seems the developers have been able to cram much more into the Android app than the iOS one. The integrated music and video players both work as advertised, enabling you to play anything already stored on your phone, but they seem like odd extras in a file sharing app like this. You can see other devices with Shareit installed in a cool radar-style interface, and connecting usually works well in our experience – we did see file transfers fail a couple of times though, so it's far from an infallible app. It's all a little bit too overwhelming and too separated from the core functionality, which is sharing: when it comes to the actual sharing, the mobile apps don't do a bad job. The iOS app is simpler, but still has the ads. You'll also probably be met with an ad or two as you scroll as well. Over on Android, Shareit looks more like the Google Play Store than a file sharing app: you're immediately met with a plethora of apps, games and other content that you might (but probably don't) want to enjoy on your phone. On desktop and laptop computers, you're essentially dealing with a single window showing a QR code – and once that is recognized by the mobile app, you can start transferring files. The Shareit interface is very basic when it comes to PC and Mac, and very cluttered when it comes to Android and iOS. Good question! Pamela Paul, who’s been the New York Times Book Review editor since 2013 sat down with FOX 5 NY to shed some light on this very common question.
